Public Domain - The copyrights have either expired or there never were any copyrights. The general rule is that a piece must have been written before 1929 to be in the public domain.
Stock Arrangement - Your group is performing from a score specifically published for marching band and no significant changes have been made to the piece of music.
Original Composition - This must be an original piece written specifically for your group by either yourself, staff members or someone you have hired. If written by someone other than yourself, you must provide permission documentation.
Arrangement of Copyrighted Work – You or someone you have hired has arranged a pre-existing copyrighted work, or are using a piece of music not originally intended for use in marching band performance.
Bands using non-published arrangements must research and secure permission from the copyright holder(s) for the intended use and submit written documentation of such. This information MUST be on file in the ISSMA office prior to performance at ISSMA Marching Band Events (this includes pre-show, actual show time, and post-show material).
